The Elemental Alignment of Halsey (Part 1) (2019)

The last time I did a reading for Halsey was in 2019, just a while before Manic came out. Ever since the release of Manic, I have been wanting to do another one for them because in that initial reading, I had gotten a lot of visuals that seemed to line up with what Manic ended up being. They have an incredibly strong projection from their core, a very expressive soul, which makes it quite easy to take a “snapshot” of that energy and explore it without having to dive in too deep.

Here, with the initial set for their current overall energy, Halsey is projecting a lot of Fire energy, a lot of very active expression, which makes sense since they’re on the verge of releasing a new album. Emergence and Come To The Edge feel closely connected as if Emergence stems from the Soul while Come To The Edge is projecting from the conscious or subconscious space. There’s a strong sense of freedom that feels brand new with Emergence expressing childlike wonder, and Come To The Edge suggesting breaking personal boundaries, facing fears, and taking risks. This may extend past their creative expression, but that’s what I’m focusing on for this reading.

In the center, they have Domination with Mars in Sagittarius, placing a massive amount of Fire in the space of expansion. It feels like a forest fire. The energy of Domination feels self-focused as if they’re attempting to dominate themselves. This could have to do with their health and body overall, or this could be a kind of “forced” self-reinvention, trying to bend and twist the personal form to fit a new state of being that they've envisioned for themselves. It’s like a rebirth that starts from the outside in.

Next to that, they have Venus, prioritizing creativity, beauty, personal pleasure and satisfaction. Venus next to Mars here really expresses a nice balance between masculine and feminine energies, between vision/desire and implimentation/achievement. As a Libra, Cardinal Air, Halsey, at their highest development, would be an expert at blending these energies and using them within their creative work, but also in initiating aspects of personal transformation.

At the end there, they have the Five of Wands, which takes all of this Fire energy, some stemming from the soul, the subconscious, the conscious mind, and perhaps even the body itself, and smashes it all together in a big tangled mess. Luckily, this is not striking me in a negative way at all. It feels like the kind of chaos one might observe in an abstract painting made up of many colors, textures, and shapes. There’s just a hell of a lot of movement, a lot of energy building from many angles, and more than anything, the Five of Wands here feels like a celebration rather than a fight.

Going back to Come To The Edge, the way the woman in the image dances on the edge of the floating piece of land feels the same as the silhouettes in the Five of Wands. They’re dancing, not fighting. The number 5 is still very prominent, however, marking a kind of “sensitivity” where the party could turn sour if someone drops their wand. Luckily, with all of this supportive Fire energy, I don’t think they need to worry about that, but may need to mind overexertion of the mind and body as to avoid temporary burn out.

Current State of Core Energy: Tarantula — Fire + Cobra — Fire

As expected, their current core energy is projecting strong Fire energy, but the aspect of chaos does not register here. The Tarantula and the Cobra are very slow-moving and strategic animals that know how to conserve their energy and strike only when their prey has gotten close enough. This actually gives me the feeling of deliberate manifestation, an intentional curation of energy to attract something toward one’s self.

The Tarantula and the Cobra are also both very spiritual energies with the Tarantula marking life purpose, and the Cobra marking personal progression and the road to enlightenment. For reference, here are the descriptions for these cards:

Considering Domination and Venus alongside the Tarantula and Cobra, Halsey seems to be very much in their power, and it makes me think of The Chariot or even The Star. Energies where personal alignment lays the foundation for overall control and dictation of personal progression going forward. The brighter they burn, the more they attract, the more they can do. Typically, with this much Fire energy present in someone, I would expect to see warnings or messages about overdoing it or potentially building on an unstable foundation, but the energy is so well-centered and stabilized, it’s hitting more like a lightning bolt than an explosion.

With that, there could be a focus on containment, as in just grounding that energy, making sure they stay as focused as possible on their vision and what they want to create. So long as they do that, there’s really no issue here with this amount of Fire energy, especially for someone so creative and artistically driven.

Higher Self Core Alignment: Turtle — Water

The Higher Self Core Alignment shows what energy the Higher Self may be pushing down into the core in order to either help in the progression of the current phase of development or to initiate a new phase entirely. Here, Halsey has the Turtle, a Water energy, that seems to represent the containment I was talking about in the previous set. This is an energy present on a higher level to help manage the forward motion of their soul. It’s hard to explain it exactly, but I’m seeing the Turtle swimming through the dark, merky waters of the 8th House/Scorpio with a shell full of Fire, stemming from the 9th House/Sagittarius.

It’s like they made it out of the 8th House, made it through one of the many trips through the “black pond,” entered the 9th House to work on personal development, the rebirth, and before fully setting foot into the 10th House (which could line up with the completion of the phase of their Saturn Return), they tuck that Fire into their core and leap back into the pond. It’s like a re-exlporation of the heavier matters of their life, but potentially being looked at through a new lens, through a new light, a higher vantage point. This could have to do with their album focusing on upset aspects of fame alongside personal health issues, but painted in a light that seems to oppose what they’re saying or feeling. It’s intentional alchemy, taking something bad and creatively, within yourself, turning it into something that heals and offers release.

The Water energy here feels like a cooling energy, kind of like those water tanks that keep massive power generators cool so they don’t explode the entire power plant. It really does feel like Halsey is full of Fire but is surrounded by very grounded, Fixed Water energy that helps them to remain stable and focused. This may have to do with the full activation or acceleration of Scorpio energy in their birth chart, which holds their Rising, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Pluto, and North Node.

Water Alignment: Zebra — Fire

This is exciting to see. The Water Alignment showcases an individual’s creative, intuitive, and emotional energy, and with a Fire energy present, this space becomes highly stimulated. Water and Fire can be insanely difficult to balance, but the Zebra on its own carries that duality within it already. The Zebra is described as a visionary and is considered a great contributor to the world through its kindness and generosity, as well as its creative work and inspiration.

In relation to Emergence, this feels like a massive steam-engine train racing from the innermost part of Halsey out into the world, from Water to Fire, vision to creation. It’s active now, it’s in the making now, and there is so much focus and determination behind it. There’s determination behind projecting a vision, taking what is in the mind and showing it to the world. Again, Halsey is an incredibly creative person with a soul that wants to share, wants to be known, and wants to connect through artistry.

Fire Alignment: Bat — Air

The Fire Alignment acts as a bridge between the inner world and the outer world. It marks passion, action, and aspects of desire, creation, and willpower. Here, they have the Bat, an Air energy that stimulates the Fire from within. Sometimes when an Air energy shows up in this alignment, it can be a sign that a person is being inspired (or uninspired) by something or someone outside of themselves as Air can imply observation and communication, but here, the Bat emerges from the chest. Basically, it’s like their own words or thoughts are fueling their creation, their own experiences and perspective on those experiences are all that is being focused on with this. It’s a very self-focused, self-contained, self-initiated creative state.

On some level, I feel the Bat and the Turtle are connected, just with one down below under the water, and the other way up high in the sky. Both are in the dark, hidden away, deep in contemplation under the moon, but so unbelievably “on the move.”

Something about this is making me feel like I’m walking through an old abandoned house with a torch and just lighting the place up, setting curtains and peeling wallpaper on fire, leaving a trail of smoke and ash behind me. Within the inner space, it feels like self-initiated energetic or emotional purging, on some level letting go of the past, or of the heavier aspects that may have been weighing them down mentally. It definitely feels like a self-initiated rebirth, as if the Phoenix set itself on fire rather than spontaneously bursting into flames as part of a natural flow. This goes into Domination as well. Dominating the self, flying into a new sense of self, upgrading, and allowing a new sense of freedom to take over.

Between the Turtle, Zebra, and Bat, there is a wonderful sense of natural flow and instinctual progression. In other words, Halsey does what feels right to them, and it feels right to them because it’s a deep desire of the higher aspects of the soul which they are incredibly intune with to the point where intuition hits more like natural instinct.

Earth Alignment: Owl — Air (rev.)

The Earth Alignment is like the threshold between a person and the physical reality, the doorway that Fire has to pass through in order to be observed by or communicated to others. It can show a person’s level of groundedness, connection to their environment or reality in general, connection to their body, and aspects of self-awareness.

This is the only alignment in their reading that is unbalanced or unstable. As the Owl is described as clairvoyant and often appears when there are detours or sudden changes to a person’s path, I imagine the reversal of this card is simply a reflection of their relation to the future overall. Basically, their creative vision, what they choose to do every day is very in their power, however, they recognize that there could be some unplanned bumps in the road, or just general uncertainty when it comes to the body and their relation to the outside world.

There is somewhat of a grounded feel to the Owl here, though. There’s not really a major anxiety to it, it’s more so just an acknowledgment, an acceptance of the fact that they can’t predict or control what will happen next, or with anything outside of themself. With that kind of uncertainty and relinquishing of external control, this may be what has really sparked this immense upswing in Fire energy. With no energy or attention wasted on things they can’t control, they have so much more energy going toward what they can — their art.

Air Alignment: Cheetah — Fire

The Air Alignment focuses on a person’s conscious level thought process, manner of communication, areas of focus, and strategic movement. Here, they have a very strong Fire energy, one described as Solar Force and deeply rooted in strong projections of masculine energy. This feels like someone who is ready to SPEAK, is very ready, excited to say something, do something, put something into action. There’s a lot of build-up to it, and I do think this has to do with their new album and just the preparation for the release of it.

The image of the Cheetah on the card really feels like its frozen in place, as if its at the starting line of a race, tension building in its muscles as it patiently waits for the gun to go off so that it can bolt straight toward the finish line. Rather than suggesting a plan or outlook, this is pure eagerness to see and communicate what has already been done. It’s excitement, and nerves, all bouncing together and stimulating each other to the point where Halsey is just radiating this vibrant, well-balanced energy.

All around, it really does feel like Halsey has entered a new state of being, very in their power and in alignment with their higher self and soul desire. I can imagine that this upcoming album will be a very special one, and one that may mark for their audience a new kind of “high point.”
